2010 Arts & Science Themes!
Super Spy:
- Become the ultimate secret secret agent in this week designed to build sweet spy skills like code cracking, fingerprint dusting, motion detector and silent alarm assembly, invisible ink messaging and more! (Activities designed by the Exploratorium and MOCHA)
Science:

This week is all about exploring the scientific principles of flight. Apply aerodynamic techniques such a “maximizing lift” or “minimizing drag” to make rockets fly higher, gliders fly longer, and planes fly faster! Plus learn how to make simple but powerful chemical reactions capable of launching air crafts into the sky!
Art:
We’ll explore art through the air. Catch the wind with a beautiful kite or sculpt a hot air balloon to dangle from your room. Then let your imagination soar through surrealist collage paintings inspired by Chagall that make pigs fly or cows jump over the moon.
Cosmic Creations:
- Join us for an “out-of-this-world” week filled with alien slime, galactic crystals, planetary mobiles, water-powered rockets, and more! (Activities designed by the Exploratorium and MOCHA)
Science:
Mechanical engineering, electrical circuits, and potential/kinetic energy are explored as you invent peculiar gizmos and gadgets such as scribble-bots, rubber-bots, automatas, catapults, tumbler toys and even mini light sabers!
Art:

In this week of art, you invent the games…and the rules! Create dizzying marble mazes complete with trap doors and secret passages. Design your very own board game and game pieces from scratch. If there’s time, you can even add lights and buzzers to your board! If that wasn’t enough, you can paint and piece together unique puzzles too! *Note: There is an additional $10 material fee for this session.
Underwater Wonders:
- Dive below the surface to discover the magical world of aquatic creatures that call oceans, coral reefs, rainforests and tidepools their home! (Activities designed by the California Academy of Sciences & MOCHA)
Science:
This week’s activities revolve around exciting eco-challenges and hands-on projects that address some of the earth’s most urgent environmental issues. Understand why global warming, sustainable fishing, recycling and saving endangered rainforests is important to our every day lives and learn how you can be a planet hero!
Art:

Help save the earth by turning your trash and recycling bins into works of art! This week’s art projects revolve around creative reuse and recycling. Turn products such as egg cartons, shoe boxes, cardboard, newspapers, plastic containers, bottles and more into animals, rainforests, and 3-D superhero characters that are on a mission to save the earth!

Recreation Time
It’s not camp without outdoor fun & run around time! Except, we put an Edmo twist on our daily Recreation games. We weave in themes of confidence, teamwork, problem solving and leadership so that kids are actually learning about themselves while they play. Imagine that! Some of our favorites include: Leap of Courage, cooperative Stunts, Group Juggling, Capture the Flag, Weet & Wild Relays, and Disco Dancing Stretches…that’s right, we said “disco.” There’s an art and a science to it!
Team Time
Here teams work together on “campy” things like cheers, banners, lanyards, games, skits and other “choice time” activities. It’s a time to really get to know the other kids in your group, your counselor, and build a team identity. Then it’s time to show the whole camp how you rock the Edmo Vibe at AM and PM rally contests every day! But that’s not all! At least once a week, we also lead kids in SMILE projects that encourage anonymous acts of kindness and recognizing others in their group for doing nice things. Curious about SMILE projects? Every day my kids came home bursting with fun facts that they had learned at camp and great science experiments I could do with them at home!” –1st & 4th grade parent
As an Art History Professor I was thrilled that my 6 year old learned about modern art and abstract sculpture in an exciting and age appropriate way!” –1st grade Parent
Important Grouping & Curriculum Notes
- Ratios: We maintain a Camper:Staff ratio of 8:1 throughout most of the day.
- Age Groups: We typically divide campers into 3 groups: K, 1st-2nd, & 3-5th.
- Group size: Generally vary between 10-20 kids per group.
- Friends: We will do our very best to honor your special requests to be grouped with a friend. There are certain circumstances which will prevent us from honoring all buddy requests. Those include: age discrepancy, behavior issues and staff to camper ratios
- Age Appropriate Activities: Although the weekly theme is the same for all age groups, the actual activities, concepts and degree of difficulty for completion vary according to the age group.
- Modified Activities: On rare occasion we may need to modify weekly activities due to weather, material availability and/or time constraints.
